An underrated Guangdong city is found at ICIF. They said they even rejected an offer from France’s Perrier

At the 22nd China (Shenzhen) International Cultural Industries Fair (ICIF) held in Guangdong's tech hub, Shenzhen, from May 21 to 25, Guangdong's Heyuan was featured with premium natural soda mineral water on May 24, which is said to have once drawn interest from France's Perrier.

Heyuan is a much-underrated city in northeastern Guangdong. At the Heyuan pavilion at the ICIF, a wealth of local products are on display, ranging from Guangdong's own version of Perrier water to one of Guangdong's top three famous teas, which is dubbed as "civet coffee of the tea world". Splendid intangible cultural heritage, puppetry, and lively Hakka folk songs also take the stage by turns, pushing the vibe to new heights.

The Hakka people in Guangdong are renowned for preserving the ancient Central Plains culture — a civilization that originated in the lower Yellow River basin — along with their distinctive dialects, folk arts, and fortified dwellings.

Known as the "Hometown of Dinosaurs," Heyuan boasts lush mountains, pristine waters, and rich agricultural specialties. It also nurtures a distinctive Hakka culture that is believed to retain some characteristics of the Central Plains, the cradle of ancient Chinese civilization.
