The First Senior Officials' Meeting and Related Meetings (SOM1), the first event of APEC China 2026, were being held in Guangzhou from February 1 to February 10.
The meeting will focus on "Building an Asia-Pacific Community to Prosper Together," the theme of APEC 2026, along with its three priorities: openness, innovation, and cooperation.
Napoleon Kilates Juanillo Jr., Assistant Secretary of the Philippines' Department of Science and Technology, told South that he attended the meeting to discuss scientific issues among APEC members.
As he is interested in China's emerging industries, he said he is looking forward to visiting Guangzhou's innovation hubs and learning more about China's experience in developing high-tech industries.
