"We are strongly open to such collaboration because we see a lot of Guangdong products and broader Chinese products," says Devin Pranata, Director of Operations and Business Development at the Jakarta Experience Board, in an interview during the "Guangdong Meets the Asia-Pacific · China Finds 'Guangdong Goods, Global Reach'" event in Jakarta on September 22.
Pranata's organization works across hotels, film production, merchandising and event curation. He sees cooperation extending beyond goods. "The collaboration is not only about goods, but also about technologies that we can implement," he says. "By doing so, we can actually increase the quality of what we have done in Indonesia."
He points to a recent milestone: last month, the Jakarta Film Commission signed an MOU with Guangdong Province. "We can move forward about this because this collaboration is good not only for us but also for Guangdong," he says. With Jakarta's large population and strong audience for Chinese films, he sees potential for Guangdong production teams to film in the city. He added that Jakarta would become one of the world's top 50 cities through this kind of business activities.
