Where culture lives: Stories from Guangdong's countryside

At the end of 2022, Guangdong Province—China's economic powerhouse in the south—launched a major rural revitalization program aimed at narrowing the gap between urban and rural areas. Known as the "Hundreds, Thousands, Tens of Thousands" initiative, the plan seeks to develop hundreds of counties, thousands of towns, and tens of thousands of villages.

Now in its third year, the initiative has introduced a new campaign to bring more cultural events to rural communities. The campaign was launched on April 30 with a ceremony at the Bai'etan GBA Arts Center in Guangzhou.

The event welcomed rural artists and performers who showcased the rich traditions of their hometowns. How is art being preserved, practiced, and evolving in these communities? GDToday reporter Siyuan sat down with some of them to find out. Watch the video to hear their stories!
