China can mitigate ASEAN's loss given potential Trump's tariffs: Former Malaysian trade official

After a 90-day pause, US President Donald Trump sent letters to more than 20 countries last week to levy at least 20% tariffs effective August 1.

Among these countries, eight ASEAN member states have suffered from tariffs ranging from 20% to 40%.

In an exclusive interview, Rebecca Fatima Sta Maria, former Secretary General of the Ministry of International Trade & Industry in Malaysia, explained to South the sectors that may be prone to tariffs in Malaysia.

In addition, she suggested that ASEAN should deepen cooperation with China to mitigate the potential risks brought by Trump's tariffs.
