Long before he competed at WorldSkills, Ou Yuhao was already fascinated by electronics. He built his first radio inside a soap box.
As a teenager, while many of his friends spent their pocket money on toys, Ou used his to buy electronic components such as resistors, capacitors and transistors. Taking things apart—and putting them back together—sparked a passion that would shape his future.
In 2011, he enrolled in a vocational college to study mechatronics. Driven by his interest in electronics, he spent long hours practicing circuit design and developed an adaptive remote-control device that was later granted a national patent.
Ou went on to represent China in Electronics at the 43rd WorldSkills Competition, where he earned a Medallion for Excellence after completing nearly 20 hours of competition across hardware design, embedded programming, fault diagnosis and system testing.
"Passion is where everything begins. Skills are what make it grow," Ou said.
Today, Ou works in the Internet of Things industry, helping traditional factories adopt smarter manufacturing solutions. For him, a childhood hobby has grown into a lifelong profession—one still driven by the same curiosity that inspired a homemade radio years ago.
