Ong Tee Keat: China acts as a strong stablizer in a volatile world

The three-day APEC Economies China Studies Scholars Forum kicked off on June 11 in Guangzhou, bringing together academic insights on the development of APEC economies.

Ong Tee Keat, President of the Belt and Road Initiative Caucus for Asia Pacific (BRICAP), Chairman of the New Asia Strategic Research Centre, and former Minister of Transport of Malaysia, told South that China has emerged as a crucial stabilizer within the APEC framework amid growing global uncertainties and economic fragmentation. This positive momentum not only benefits economic cooperation between China and ASEAN member states but also strengthens the broader Asia-Pacific economic landscape.

He also highlighted that new growth drivers, including the digital economy, green transformation, and e-commerce, are set to become core engines driving future development for China, Malaysia, and other ASEAN economies.
