On July 9, Nauruan President David Adeang, currently on a trip with his family to trace his ancestral roots in China, paid a visit to Shenzhen, experiencing the latest developmental progress in China's Greater Bay Area.
The delegation ascended Lotus Hill Park, where they surveyed the city's skyline while learning about Shenzhen's reform and opening-up legacy. Perched atop Lotus Hill's main peak, a summit plaza stands 100 meters above sea level, spanning 4,000 square meters, making it Shenzhen's highest open-air public square.

At the Shenzhen Women & Children's Center, local children welcomed the presidential family with flowers, songs, and handcrafted gifts. The visit featured a magic performance that captivated children from both nations—particularly when a card trick symbolically joined two red hearts. One heart represents the Chinese people, and the other represents Nauruans.
"The magic show was the highlight so far for the kids," remarked Kellen Deiye, the president's daughter. "They really enjoyed that one." The president's son, Chaka Adeang, experienced VR technology: "It's my third time trying virtual reality. When you put it on, it looks very real—sometimes scary, but really, really good!"

His sister Magna, the youngest family member, noted Shenzhen's learning environments: "This is a very good opportunity for kids back home if they could experience facilities like this. In Nauru, we don't have such play areas."

The journey held deep significance for the Adeangs. "It was a very emotional experience for our dad to finally see where he originates from," Kellen shared. "A humbling journey for us all." When explaining their Chinese heritage to younger family members, she observed, "They couldn't grasp it until seeing it firsthand. Being here opened their understanding."

Overwhelmed by China's offerings, Magna shared, "We have no idea where to start—everything is so advanced." The family expressed eagerness to return, with Kellen adding, "Any opportunity to come back will benefit our children immensely."
As niece Rainbow Adeang exclaimed during a magic trick, "Ah! This is the gift for me? Thank you," a sentiment echoing the visit's spirit of cross-cultural exchange.
