San Francisco Bay Area, GBA should tackle shared challenges together: US executive

The San Francisco Bay Area and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) should deepen cooperation to tackle shared challenges in fields such as healthcare, AI safety and climate change, a US business executive said.

Speaking on the sidelines of the 2026 Global Investment Promotion Conference for the GBA, Jennifer Zou, senior vice president of Global Affairs and head of the China Division at the San Francisco Bay Area Council, highlighted the distinct strengths of the two regions.

She said the San Francisco Bay Area performs strongly in AI and technological innovation, while the GBA is advancing rapidly in manufacturing and technological innovation.

"I think both sides should join hands," Zou said.

She also stressed that direct engagement is essential to building mutual understanding and trust. US companies, she said, need to visit China and see the market for themselves, while Chinese businesses should take the initiative to go overseas and help the world better understand Chinese companies and people.
