A century of football: British club & Guangdong's Sanshui, 1925–2025

On October 26, Yunxiushan Stadium in Sanshui, Foshan was once again in the spotlight. A friendly match between the UK's Stockport County and Foshan's "LALIGA" United rekindled the century-old football bond between China and the UK.

Founded in 1883, this team began its ties with China over a century ago, visiting China in 2001 and 2004.

Notably, beyond this highly anticipated friendly, the British delegation was particularly impressive, featuring legends like former England international Peter Barnes, along with executives and players from Stockport County FC.

From humble earthen fields a century ago to Foshan's "LALIGA" stadium packed with thousands, Sanshui's football landscape has been completely transformed. Football has become a bridge linking China with the world.

Foshan's "LALIGA" Football League attracts athletes from diverse countries and backgrounds, all playing with passion. For Steve Bellis, president of Stockport County, this is his 105th visit to China. A photograph spanning a century.

A football match that transcends borders. Sanshui's football story continues to unfold. This Sino-foreign friendship will be forever cherished in Foshan.
