At the WorldSkills Competition in Shanghai, which runs from September 22 to 27, competitors from 68 countries and regions are showcasing world-class skills. They are among the best in their fields.
We asked journalists, staff and attendees from Germany, India, Brazil and South Africa the same question: How do young people in their countries choose between university and vocational training?
Bias against vocational education still exists. "There's still this stigma, the perception that if you are at a TVET college, then you're not smart enough," said South African journalist Nomhle Ngubane. India's Lohith Kumar K J offered a counterpoint: the students competing here, showing world-class skills, are proof that perception is wrong.
