"What amazes me most is the city's green spaces, the variety of flowers, and the lantern-filled parks, as well as the friendliness of the people and the charm of the architecture," Mia Mikic, Research Associate at the University of Waikato, told South in Guangzhou, south China, on February 6.
The First Senior Officials' Meeting and Related Meetings (SOM1) of APEC China 2026 are being held in the city from February 1 to 10.
Visiting Guangzhou for the first time, Mikic said she is discovering everything—the big city, the welcoming people, and the local culture—and praised the organization of the meetings.
She also expressed excitement to learn about the local "Hero Flower," highlighting her fascination with both the natural and cultural charm of the city.
