From green tech to idyllic countryside: Diplomatic envoys commend Zhongshan's green energy development and rural revitalization

A delegation of foreign diplomats from various nations recently conducted an extensive tour in Zhongshan, Guangdong Province, to witness firsthand the city's strides in pioneering renewable energy and observe the fruitful outcomes of Guangdong's High-Quality County-Township-Village Development Initiative.

Visiting key sites including Ming Yang Smart Energy's headquarters and picturesque Yakou Village, the diplomats gained insights into how green innovation and comprehensive rural planning worked together to fuel sustainable growth.

Their visit to explore Zhongshan's industrial strengths kicked off at Ming Yang Smart Energy, a world-leading renewable energy firm, whose cutting-edge technologies left a great impression on the visitors.

Khalil Hashmi, Ambassador of Pakistan to China, expressed pride upon seeing his past efforts come to fruition. On February 6, 2025, Ming Yang Smart Energy signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the Energy Department of Sindh Province, Pakistan, in Beijing. Ambassador Hashmi signed this agreement in person.

"And now I am here at the headquarters of this great company," Hashmi remarked, praising Ming Yang Smart Energy's substantial contribution to mitigating climate change. He highlighted that as Pakistan restructures its energy mix by adding solar, wind, hydro, and nuclear power, Ming Yang Smart Energy's capacity to provide large-scale customized, cost-effective solutions is remarkable, offering core equipment and affordable technologies badly needed by resource-limited developing countries.

This enthusiasm for renewable energy cooperation resonated strongly across the delegation. Shohrat Batyrov, Commercial Counsellor at the Embassy of Turkmenistan to China, emphasized the value of joint research to adapt advanced Chinese technologies to local geographic and natural conditions, particularly for landlocked areas.

Meanwhile, Soledad Cordova, Ambassador of Ecuador to China, identified energy as the most crucial field for future bilateral collaboration. "My country has sun and wind. Maybe we can learn from you," Cordova stated, hoping to draw on Guangdong's technological expertise to initiate long-term, effective bilateral cooperation.

Moving from industrial high-tech and green energy to rural vitality, the envoys were equally captivated by the remarkable transformation of Zhongshan's countryside.

While visiting Yakou Village, the diplomats marveled at how meticulous planning improves local livelihoods while preserving cultural heritage. Selcuk Unal, Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to China, found himself enchanted by the scenery, and held up Yakou as a prime example of China's booming rural tourism from which Türkiye could also draw inspiration.

The visual and cultural harmony of the village even shifted the envoys' perceptions of what modern rural life looks like.
