A total of 19 international students from Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School, Sun Yat-sen University and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) recently took part in a summer field trip to Dongchong Town, Nansha District, Guangzhou.
There they tried their hand at making traditional wedding pastries (Jianü Bing), a local item of intangible cultural heritage.
Under the guidance of master craftsman Liang, they kneaded dough, filled pastries and watched the baking process up close. The hands-on experience offered them an intimate insight into the intricate craftsmanship as well as the wedding customs of Lingnan water towns.
