Guangdong's Jieyang offers you lucky charms that will bless your Year of the Horse

Dos and don'ts that may affect your luck during the Chinese New Year have become a trending topic on social media. A South reporter dove into one of the most culturally rich cities—Jieyang in southeastern Guangdong—to look for the most reliable Chinese New Year traditions and lucky charms for your new year.

Jieyang is a key birthplace of Teochew culture, the cultural root of one-third of overseas Chinese. In a New Year goods campaign held in the city on Feb. 11, the reporter found distinctive cultural treasures and festive specialties, including Jieyang's iconic jadeware that combines traditional Teochew woodcarving and stone carving techniques; authentic Teochew flavors like goose meatballs, emblic drinks, Teochew beefballs, and Teochew black olive sausage that are hard to find outside the Teochew community.
