The Asia-Pacific Media Forum kicked off in Shenzhen, Guangdong, on September 5. The theme for this year is "Building a Path to Shared Prosperity for the Asia-Pacific Community: Media Consensus and Action."
At the forum, Ye Tint, deputy minister of the Ministry of Information of Myanmar, noted, "Prosperity must be shared." In that pursuit, he said, the media are far more than messengers of events, as they shape public perceptions and can serve as a bridge of understanding among countries and cultures.
While coverage can intensify conflict, responsible journalism can encourage dialogue, trust and cooperation. "The media can serve as a constructive force in bringing our people closer together," Ye Tint affirmed.
