Guangdong and Japan took a significant step towards enhancing their economic cooperation with the China (Guangdong)-Japan Economic and Trade Cooperation Conference, held in Guangzhou on June 12.
The event attracted over 800 Japanese entrepreneurs from 210 companies, eager to explore business opportunities in Guangdong.
Guangdong's economic attraction
Guangdong, one of China's most economically advanced provinces, boasts a massive consumer market and diverse industrial demands.
Liu Dezeng, Deputy Director of the Guangdong Investment Promotion Bureau, highlighted that Japanese enterprises, with their advanced technologies and products in sectors like automobiles, electronics, and machinery, are well-positioned to meet Guangdong's demand for high-quality goods and services.
"Guangdong welcomes Japanese enterprises to utilize our robust industrial chains and clusters for mutually beneficial cooperation," Liu said.
Industrial chain cooperation
Sato Hirokazu, representing Guangzhou Tocos Electronics Co., Ltd., stated that their primary goal in attending the event was to learn how to enter the Guangdong market and understand its development direction.
"As a manufacturing enterprise, automotive-related parts are crucial for us. We aim to procure products from parts manufacturers in Guangdong and believe this event offers an excellent opportunity for Japanese companies to collaborate with local manufacturers on various business initiatives," Sato added.
Beyond integrating into Guangdong's industrial chains, Japanese enterprises are also open to Guangdong companies joining Japan's local chains. Jiang Meiling, Head of the Overseas Business Division at Guangzhou Saite Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd., noted that Japanese companies may have investment plans or seek deep collaboration in the industrial chain. "Japanese enterprises hope Chinese companies can conduct local assembly, effectively bringing a portion of the supply chain to Japan," Jiang explained.
Looking ahead, Guangdong and Japanese enterprises are expected to explore more cooperation potential, particularly in fields such as automotive innovation, AI, and the low-altitude economy.
Automotive industry focus
Utsunomiya Kenhiko from Mizuho Leasing (China) Ltd. emphasized that Guangdong is a hub for the automotive industry, with Japanese enterprises having a long history of development in this sector.
"Guangdong is a crucial market for our future business expansion. We intend to continue increasing our efforts in exploring the Guangdong market," Utsunomiya said.
The conference served as a platform for Japanese enterprises to connect with local Guangdong manufacturers and explore business opportunities. With Guangdong's economic vitality and Japan's technological advantages, the collaboration between the two sides is poised to yield fruitful results and drive further economic growth.
