Consular officials visit Maoming, exploring cooperation amid litchi trees

From June 11 to 12, consular officials of Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and the United States stationed in Guangzhou gathered in Maoming to explore new opportunities for international cooperation.

Maoming, a coastal city in southwestern Guangdong Province, is known as the largest litchi-producing region in China and a major hub for modern agriculture. The city has about 1.45 million mu (96,700 hectares) of litchi orchards.

The visit is part of the "Litchi Aroma Worldwide, Win-Win Cooperation" 2026 Maoming Exchange Activity of Specialty Industries and Open Development. The delegation explored centuries-old litchi orchards and the China Litchi Expo Hall, and learned about the city's thriving agricultural sector and related industries.

Maoming's signature industrial cluster, covering litchi, longan, agarwood, plum, tilapia, and other specialties, has become a key driver of the local agricultural economy. By the end of 2025, the output value of the entire industrial chain had exceeded 60 billion yuan, creating jobs and boosting incomes for around 600,000 farmers.

In the cool shade of litchi trees, participants exchanged views on potential cooperation in areas ranging from smart agriculture and health products to market access and cold chain logistics.
