At the Guangdong Meets the Asia-Pacific · China Finds "Guangdong Goods, Global Reach" Cambodia Promotion Event, held in Siem Reap, Cambodia, on September 19, Chen Jinhe, President of the Siem Reap Cambodian Chinese Council, spoke on Chinese education and Guangdong products.
Chen said the council's main duty is to promote Chinese-language education and improve Zhongshan School. "We are fulfilling the wishes of our ancestors, especially us Chaoshan people," he said, adding they hoped the culture would be passed down from generation to generation, with descendants speaking Chinese and the Chaoshan dialect. This also offers a chance to cultivate talent, as young people fluent in Khmer and Chinese enjoy more job opportunities.
At the event, Chen said the products were highly appealing, especially high-tech items. Though Cambodia is small, demand for new products and cutting-edge technology is strong. Chinese electric vehicles are praised as powerful, modern, automated, intelligent and cost-effective. "The most eye-catching product is smart glasses," he said, hoping affordable, practical Chinese products can be sold in Cambodia. The event, he added, broadened horizons and showcased Guangdong's remarkable development.
His father came to Cambodia at 11 in the 1930s; after his father passed away, Chen took his place on the council. Most Angkor Wat guides are Zhongshan School students, which makes him proud. He hopes China-Cambodia friendship keeps flourishing.
