Chinese expert: Canton Fair highlights Guangzhou's key role in connecting China with the global market

The First APEC Senior Officials' Meeting and related meetings (SOM1), the first event of APEC China 2026, are being held in Guangzhou from February 1 to February 10.

The meetings focus on "Building an Asia-Pacific Community to Prosper Together," the theme of APEC 2026, along with its three priorities: openness, innovation, and cooperation.

During the sessions, Liu Wei, Director of the Institute of International Studies at the Guangdong Academy of Social Sciences, told reporters that the Canton Fair has long been a hallmark of Guangzhou, reflecting the city's openness and international outlook.

Over nearly 70 years of uninterrupted development, it has grown from showcasing around 10,000 export products to presenting hundreds of thousands of goods for both import and export. Liu emphasized that the Canton Fair continues to play a pivotal role in connecting China's domestic market with the global market, highlighting Guangzhou's unique position in fostering international trade.
