On September 2, the South Meizhou Channel was officially launched in Meizhou City, Guangdong Province.
Known as the "Hometown of Culture, Football, and Overseas Chinese," Meizhou is a national-level cultural and ecological reserve, a major gathering place for Hakka people, and the birthplace of Hakka merchants who have spread globally.
In the first half of 2025, Meizhou's GDP achieved a year-on-year growth of 5.7 percent, marking the fastest growth rate in Guangdong Province. This November, the city will host the 7th World Hakka Entrepreneurs Convention, making the channel's launch particularly timely.

South has served as Guangdong's leading platform for international communication and the primary source for the world to learn about the province.
Led by South, Nanfang Media Group is spearheading this effort to build a comprehensive international communication network for Guangdong, integrating provincial resources to tell the stories of China, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), and Guangdong's unique experiences.
As a collaborative channel between provincial and local media, the South Meizhou Channel will focus on promoting Meizhou's "High-quality Development Projects for Guangdong Counties, Towns, and Villages" (a rural revitalization initiative), the development of its pioneering area for the revitalization of the former Central Soviet Region of Gan, Fujian and Guangdong, and the upcoming World Hakka Entrepreneurs Convention.
Through these efforts, it will showcase Meizhou's cultural heritage, football legacy, and overseas Chinese connections, presenting a more open, dynamic, and picturesque Meizhou to the world.
This initiative marks a significant step in amplifying Meizhou's global voice and strengthening cultural exchanges, aligning with Guangdong's broader strategy to enhance international communication and foster global understanding of its rich heritage and modern development.
The channel's launch has been met with enthusiasm from Overseas Chinese leaders and global friends of Meizhou, many of whom have sent congratulatory video messages.
