New cruise offers an immersive journey into Nanyue culture on Pearl River

In 2026, a night cruise on the Pearl River is about more than simply sitting on a boat and watching the city lights. An expanding lineup of themed vessels now offers different ways to experience Guangzhou after dark, with experiences centered on traditional Chinese culture, Lingnan heritage, tea culture, Nanyue history and futuristic technology.

These cruises combine sightseeing with live performances, themed dining, cultural activities and immersive visual experiences, appealing to a wide range of travelers, from families and culture enthusiasts to couples, photography lovers and those looking for a more contemporary experience.

For travelers looking to explore Guangzhou from the Pearl River, here is a closer look at what sets the Jixiang Cruise (吉祥舫) apart.

A floating Nanyue cultural experience

The Jixiang Cruise is China's first three-deck luxury immersive cruise ship themed around Nanyue culture. Its design blends elements of traditional Lingnan pleasure boats with Nanyue court aesthetics and ancient Yue ceremonial music and culture.

The vessel has a capacity of 435 passengers and features dragon and auspicious-cloud motifs, gold-and-red decorative patterns and an integrated lighting system that creates different visual effects during the day and at night.

Each of the three decks offers a distinct experience:

First deck: The main performance and dining area features a large overhead screen and an extended stage inspired by Nanyue palace architecture.

Second deck: Passengers can explore a circular viewing corridor, a Nanyue culture and archaeology gallery and private VIP rooms.

Third deck: A 360-degree open-air observation deck offers panoramic views of the Pearl River and Guangzhou's nighttime skyline.

Rather than focusing on sightseeing alone, the cruise combines live entertainment, dining and interactive activities to create an immersive experience from the moment passengers board.

Journey through the Nanyue era

The cruise's signature production, Beyond Time: A Nanyue Feast, uses live performances to bring Nanyue history and Lingnan culture to life. Performers dressed in Nanyue-inspired costumes combine traditional music and dance to tell stories of the ancient kingdom's development, trade and customs.

The cruise also offers Lingnan Feast Through the Ages, a themed dining experience featuring local Lingnan cuisine served in specially designed tableware inspired by ancient Yue cultural motifs.

How to take the Jixiang Cruise

Tickets for the cruise's performance program went on sale on July 17, 2026, with daily departures scheduled at 6:30 p.m. and 8:35 p.m.

Boarding point: Gate 5, Canton Tower Wharf (广州塔码头), Haizhu District, Guangzhou. The new pier is located east of Canton Tower Fortune Terminal (广州塔财富码头), near Liede Bridge (猎德大桥).

Travelers should use official or authorized booking channels and check the latest ticket availability and terms before purchasing.

Before you go

Passengers should bring the identification document used for the booking, as real-name ticketing is required.

During the summer holiday, weekends and public holidays can be busy, so passengers are advised to arrive early to allow enough time for ticket collection and boarding.

Cruise operations may also be affected by weather, tides, navigation controls or other safety requirements. Travelers should check the latest sailing information before setting out.

Combining Nanyue culture, live entertainment, Lingnan cuisine and Guangzhou's illuminated skyline, the Jixiang Cruise offers visitors a different way to experience the Pearl River after dark.
