Why China's vision matters in addressing global governance deficits

As the world grapples with over 50 ongoing conflicts and increasing climate-related disasters, former heads of state and government convened in Guangzhou, South China's Guangdong Province, from December 1 to 3 to examine how global governance has fallen out of sync with today's challenges.

In interviews with South reporters, they expressed concerns about weakened multilateralism and international organizations such as the World Bank and IMF, which many believe no longer reflect the economic weight of emerging nations.

China's global initiatives—including the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, the Global Civilization Initiative, and the Global Governance Initiative—were central to the discussions, with several participants noting that they provide a vision for cooperation at a time when trust and solidarity are scarce.
