Guangzhou acrobatic drama Swan begins Russia tour

As the only Asian production invited to the 250th anniversary celebrations of the Bolshoi Theatre, the original Chinese acrobatic drama Swan, from Guangzhou, staged four performances from April 24 to 26 local time, all to full houses. The audience rose to its feet at curtain call, with prolonged applause.

Following its run in Moscow, Swan will be staged at the Mariinsky Theatre from April 29 to May 1, marking its return to the renowned Russian venue after its 2024 performances.

Founded in 1776, the Bolshoi Theatre is one of the world’s premier institutions for classical arts and the site of the 1877 premiere of the ballet Swan Lake. Its 250th anniversary celebrations in 2026 are among Russia’s most prestigious cultural events of the year, featuring only top-tier companies and productions with significant artistic influence.

As the only Asian production invited, Swan reflects international recognition of China’s innovation in acrobatics. It also marks the first time a Guangzhou-produced work has been featured on the Bolshoi’s anniversary main stage, representing a new milestone in the city’s cultural exchange with the world.
