The selection for the 2026 BRICS Industrial Innovation Contest New Energy Industry Track officially commenced in the Zhaoqing High-tech Industry Development Zone on April 28. With a focus on the convergence of new energy and information technology, this prestigious event serves as a vital platform for pooling global innovation resources from BRICS and "BRICS+" nations to drive the ongoing new industrial revolution.
Co-hosted by the Center for International Economic and Technological Cooperation of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (CIETC MIIT) and the BRICS Partnership on New Industrial Revolution (PartNIR) Innovation Center, the competition is co-organized by the Management Committee of Zhaoqing High-tech Industry Development Zone and the National New Energy Storage Innovation Center. The initiative aims to inject "Zhaoqing momentum" into the global industrial landscape by fostering high-level technological exchanges.
The competition features three specialized tracks: New Energy Storage, Solar Photovoltaics, and the High-end Sci-tech Education Corridor. A total of 85 high-quality projects from across China are participating, showcasing cutting-edge advancements in new energy, storage, and low-carbon smart energy. Representing the collaborative efforts between top universities and leading enterprises, these projects demonstrate the strong industrial clustering and technology transfer capabilities inherent in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA).
The event marks the second consecutive year that the Zhaoqing High-tech Industry Development Zone has hosted this international event. According to an official from the Zone, the region will continue to refine its "Innovation + Industry + Capital" ecosystem. By deeply integrating into the global energy transition, the Zone aims to accelerate its development into a world-class innovation hub and industrial cluster for energy electronics within the GBA, leveraging new quality productive forces to empower BRICS cooperation and green development.
As technical competition in the energy electronics sector enters a new phase of collaborative growth, the 2026 selection contest provides strategic support for Zhaoqing to anchor itself within the global energy innovation network. The event is seen as a crucial opportunity for the region to establish a benchmark for the new energy industry and cultivate core international competitiveness for the future.
