Zhanjiang red oranges reach Malaysia as exports surge

Ten tonnes of Lianjiang red oranges from Zhanjiang, in southern China's Guangdong province, have been shipped to Malaysia after passing quarantine inspection, local customs officials said.

Known for their tender flesh and sweet-and-sour taste, the oranges are a key local farm product and a major source of income for growers. Eight orchards and packing plants in Lianjiang are now approved for export, while two export-focused orchards have been designated as provincial demonstration bases.

Fresh fruit exports depend heavily on speed, as red oranges have a short shelf life. To meet this need, Zhanjiang Customs District has introduced fast-track clearance, allowing goods to be declared, inspected, and released within an hour.

This has reduced delivery time from harvest to supermarket shelves in Southeast Asia to just three days. Customs officials said overseas orders for Lianjiang red oranges have risen by about 70% compared to the same period last year, reflecting growing demand in ASEAN markets.
