On December 4, the "New Quality Productive Forces Promote Beautiful China and Healthy China (Jiangmen) Conference," an integral part of the 2024 Understanding China Conference, opened in Jiangmen, Guangdong Province. Over 100 Chinese and foreign guests from political, strategic, corporate, academic, and think tank sectors gathered in Chikan Overseas Chinese Ancient Town.

Hassan Diab, former Prime Minister of Republic of Lebanon, stated that the conference serves as a platform to reinforce commitments to building a more interconnected, empowered, and prosperous global South. "China's policy of non-interference and emphasis on economic development makes it an attractive partner for Middle Eastern and North African (MENA) countries seeking to focus on development without the complexities of Western-style political conditions."
He also believes that, in addition to economic cooperation, the deepening of reforms in China is likely to spur greater cultural and educational exchanges with the global South. Meanwhile, MENA can serve as a gateway for China to access European and African markets, furthering China's strategic interests.

It is the first time that the Understanding China Conference has held a sub-forum outside the host city. Jiangmen, a renowned hometown of overseas Chinese in China and an important node city in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, is home to over 5.3 million Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan compatriots and overseas Chinese spread across more than 140 countries and regions worldwide.
Chen Anming, secretary of the Communist Party of China Jiangmen Municipal Committee, introduced in his speech that the average life expectancy of Jiangmen residents is 80.5 years, and the health and well-being of the people have been solidly guaranteed during development, creating a model of harmonious coexistence between human and nature.

According to Chen, Jiangmen will accelerate the construction of a modern healthy city, promoting the production and marketing of high-quality medical devices from Hong Kong and Macao in Jiangmen and serving the whole country.
Jiangmen will also take the lead in accelerating the construction of a humanoid robot application demonstration city, focusing on multi-scenario applications such as medical care, nursing, and household services. Efforts will be made to accelerate the construction of a child-friendly city and promote the related transformation of urban public spaces.

Chen added that, by focusing on technology leadership and open cooperation, Jiangmen will deeply participate in global environmental governance. Jiangmen is jointly building a laboratory of carbon science and technology with the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and participating in China-US local climate cooperation. It will also provide technical services such as "zero-carbon factory" design, carbon footprint tracking, and carbon trading to domestic and foreign enterprises.
Furthermore, Jiangmen will construct the quality improvement project for the China-Pacific Island Countries Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Cooperation Center. It will undertake important national tasks such as disaster monitoring and early warning, emergency rescue, material support, and technical exchanges, contributing Jiangmen's strength to building a community with a shared future for mankind.
