In Jiuxian Village, Mazhang District of Zhanjiang, Guangdong Province, ancient masks, colorful costumes and powerful drumbeats come together in a cultural tradition that dates back more than a thousand years.
Known as a "living fossil of Chinese dance art," Zhanjiang Nuo Dance (傩舞) is a traditional performance featuring masks, costumes and distinctive movements. Wearing traditional masks and costumes, performers showcase the ancient art through powerful steps and rhythmic movements, allowing visitors to experience the unique folk culture of southern China.
In recent years, the opening of the Zhanjiang Nuo Dance Exhibition Hall, intangible cultural heritage experience activities and the integration of Nuo Dance into schools and rural tourism have given this ancient tradition a fresh new look. More visitors, including those from overseas, are coming to Jiuxian Village to discover the richness of traditional Chinese culture.
