Foshan’s Nanhai Silk Factory turned into an amazing tourist attraction

Established in 1966, Nanhai Silk Factory (南海丝厂) in Foshan was once the only silk reeling factory in the Pearl River Delta. Its raw silk was exported to markets in Europe, the United States, and Southeast Asia. In 2022, the factory ceased production.

Now, the time-honored factory has transformed into a popular tourist attraction, where art exhibitions are held periodically, and the site features cafés brimming with artistic flair. Wandering through the area, visitors can immerse themselves in its nearly 60-year history, exploring the well-preserved warehouses, towering chimneys, slogan walls from the 1970s and 1980s, as well as numerous red-brick buildings and silk reeling machines.
