A cultural delegation from South China's Guangdong Province paid a visit to Papua New Guinea's leading daily newspaper, Post-Courier, in Port Moresby on July 31.

Led by Deng Hong, Deputy Director-General of the Information Office of the People's Government of Guangdong Province, the delegation was received by Editor-in-Chief Peter Korugl and his core editorial staff for a productive roundtable discussion.
Founded in 1969, Post-Courier is PNG's first national daily newspaper and currently boasts a circulation of 41,000 copies, making it the largest-circulation newspaper in the South Pacific island region. The publication holds significant influence across political, business and civil sectors in PNG.
During the meeting, Deng Hong noted that 2026 marks the APEC "China Year" and the 33rd APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting will be held in Shenzhen this November. The delegation officially extended an invitation to Post-Courier and other mainstream media outlets in PNG, welcoming them to visit Guangdong for on-site coverage of the APEC meetings and further exchanges.

Peter Korugl and his team expressed great anticipation for the invitation, saying they eagerly look forward to visiting China during the APEC meetings. Korugl proposed that APEC cooperation serve as a vital springboard to go beyond short-term event-driven collaboration and instead establish a long-term, regular exchange mechanism between Chinese and PNG media outlets, enabling sustained and in-depth interaction.

At the meeting, South, the international communication center under Nanfang Media Group, and Post-Courier also held extensive discussions on deepening journalistic collaboration, establishing a content-sharing and exchange mechanism and jointly covering regional topics of mutual interest. The two sides reached a preliminary consensus on cooperation.
Looking ahead, the two media outlets plan to push for the signing of a memorandum of understanding on the Maritime Silk Road Media Cooperation Platform. The initiative aims to strengthen people-to-people and cultural ties between Guangdong and the South Pacific island nations through media collaboration, contributing to the broader international communications efforts of the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road.
