Wuthering Waves, the open-world action game developed and published by Guangzhou-based Kuro Games, won the Players' Voice Award at The Game Awards (TGA) 2025 on December 12. As TGA is one of the most globally influential honors in the gaming industry, this marks another breakthrough for Chinese game development on the world stage, following the recognition of Black Myth: Wukong last year.
The accolade highlights not only the strength of Kuro Games but also the rising global competitiveness of Guangdong's gaming industry. In 2024, Wuthering Waves had already secured nominations for both Best Mobile Game and Players' Voice, reflecting its early momentum among international players. A representative from Kuro Games stated that the team is "deeply honored by the trust of players worldwide" and will continue enhancing the game with richer content and improved experiences. They expressed hope that more Chinese—especially Guangdong-developed—games will reach global audiences.
Since its official global launch in 2024, Wuthering Waves has demonstrated remarkable market performance. The game topped the App Store free charts in 107 countries and regions while also entering the top 10 bestseller rankings across many major markets. Its strong reception stems from standout storytelling and character design, persistent technical innovation, and world-class production quality. Over the past year, it has collected major awards across narrative, technology, visuals, audio, and community engagement. In November 2025, the game earned Google Play's Best Ongoing Award. In December, Wuthering Waves was further recognized at the PlayStation Partner Awards 2025, receiving both the Partner Award and the Users' Choice Award.
Kuro Games noted that the game's global success is closely linked to the increasingly vibrant development environment in Guangdong Province. Since the release of provincial policies promoting the high-quality growth of the gaming industry, local authorities have supported developers through ecosystem upgrades, content innovation incentives, and platforms for industry exchange. These measures have strengthened the confidence of local studios like Kuro. In September, Wuthering Waves was selected as one of Guangdong's 2025 Outstanding Original Online Games.
As Guangdong continues to build one of China's most dynamic gaming hubs, Wuthering Waves stands as a vivid example of how local creativity and innovation can resonate with players worldwide.
