Colombian education minister visits South China Agricultural University to boost academic ties

Colombia's Minister of Education, Daniel Rojas Medellín, visited South China Agricultural University (SCAU) in Guangzhou from May 16 to 17, where he signed a memorandum of understanding to establish cooperation between SCAU and Colombia's ICETEX, a public entity that promotes higher education through the granting of educational loans and their collection.

The two sides will collaborate in areas such as student and faculty exchanges and scholarship programs.

Since 2020, SCAU has led the China–Latin America Agricultural Education and Research Innovation Alliance (CLAERIA), which now includes 74 institutions from 15 Latin American countries — including 19 universities from Colombia.

The university has worked with Colombian institutions to establish several joint platforms, including the China–Colombia Modern Agriculture Demonstration Park and the China–Colombia Joint Research Center of Rice.

During the visit, Rojas toured SCAU’s history museum, livestock and poultry gene bank, and International College of Life Sciences and Technology, gaining an overview of the university.
