Families in Guangzhou, Guangdong, will have a fresh option for outdoor fun this May Day holiday as Liuxi River National Forest Park unveils its newly built Water Play Zone on May 1. The opening coincides with a five-day festival featuring interactive water games, ecological education, and immersive tech experiences designed to appeal to both children and adults.
From 10:00 to 16:30 daily, the park's main attraction will be its free water carnival, where families can enjoy water gun fights, splash parties, and bubble playgrounds.
Five themed activities for all ages
Beyond the water zone, the park has curated a mix of nature- and tech-driven experiences:
1. Fishing
Visitors who purchase three adult tickets and share park videos on social media (Douyin, WeChat, or Xiaohongshu) can try their hand at catch-and-release fishing. A DIY grilled fish station will allow participants to cook their fresh catches.
2. Forest VR Adventure
A newly opened exhibition hall offers interactive games and virtual reality tours to teach visitors about forest ecosystems.
3. Nature Crafts
Limited slots are available daily for workshops like DIY plant bookmarks and aromatic garden kits from 10:00 to 16:30.
4. Egg Tart Workshop
Families can bake Portuguese-style egg tarts twice daily (10:30 and 15:00) and sample their creations.
5. Water Sports
Kayaking, paddleboarding, and pedal boating will be available on the park's reservoir.
Unexpected Autumn Views in Spring
Despite the season, visitors can still spot rare red maple leaves in the park's Wuzhi Mountain area, a unique blend of summer greenery and autumn hues.
