Guangzhou Port Group relocates HQ to Nansha to boost port development

Guangzhou Port Group, the operator of Guangdong's largest and the world's sixth-largest port, inaugurated its new headquarters in Guangzhou's Nansha District on January 9. The move finalizes the group's strategic relocation to the district following the earlier change of its registered address.

Huang Bo, Party secretary and chairman of Guangzhou Port Group, stated that the move enables "zero-distance" integration with Nansha's development, improving the allocation of shipping resources and attracting high-end shipping, logistics, trade, and finance to the district. The relocation strengthens Guangzhou Port's role as an industrial leader and a hub for the headquarters economy.

Nansha Port Area now handles over 22 million TEUs and one million vehicles annually, accounting for more than 70% of Guangzhou Port's throughput. It hosts 97% of the port's 178 foreign trade routes. Recent investments include container terminals (Phases I-IV), general and grain terminals, automobile terminal clusters, and Xiaohu Petrochemical Terminal.

Nansha Port Area now handles over 22 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) annually, representing more than 70% of Guangzhou Port's total container throughput. Its annual roll-on/roll-off vehicle throughput exceeds 1 million units, also accounting for over 70% of the port's total. Furthermore, 97% of Guangzhou Port's foreign trade routes, totaling 178, operate from Nansha.

The group plans to invest nearly 20 billion yuan during the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030) to expand key projects, including the Nansha International General Terminal and Phase V Container Terminal. These projects will add 100 million tons and 10 million TEUs of annual capacity, supporting Guangzhou's vision as an ocean innovation hub and Guangdong's maritime development strategy.
