Dongguan unveils first OpenHarmony medical laboratory

Dongguan has opened its first joint laboratory dedicated to medical applications of the OpenHarmony operating system, marking a new step in the city's integration of artificial intelligence, medical services and Chinese-developed operating systems.

The OpenHarmony Joint Laboratory for Smart Medicine was officially inaugurated on July 22, jointly established by the National AI Application Pilot Base and the Nanfang Hospital of Southern Medical University (Dongguan Binhaiwan Central Hospital).

The two sides will jointly conduct research on medical applications adapted for OpenHarmony. Key focus areas include intelligent ward care, super terminals for medical equipment, a safety traceability system for pharmaceuticals and medical supplies, smart hospital campus management and a demonstration model for proactive adolescent health monitoring.

Under its development roadmap, the laboratory plans to produce a standardized set of deliverables suitable for publication and certification, and to develop benchmark smart medical cases that can be replicated and scaled across the industry.

The joint laboratory operates under a tripartite framework of government guidance, base operation and collaboration with leading institutions.

The National AI Application Pilot Base handles daily operations, providing adaptation and verification environments, the OpenHarmony development platforms, technical specialists and pilot verification resources, and supporting access to government incentive policies.

The hospital contributes specialized medical equipment, real-world operational scenarios and anonymized data, and assigns technical staff to joint research. Both sides will adopt a dual-mentor system for collaborative R&D to train professionals skilled in OpenHarmony medical applications, and will jointly advance the commercialization and rollout of research outcomes.

To speed up adoption of OpenHarmony across the medical sector, the laboratory will prioritize shared core technologies and build an end-to-end platform covering technological R&D, adaptation verification, scenario implementation and ecosystem promotion. It will facilitate product adaptation and certification to drive the large-scale deployment of OpenHarmony in medical settings.
