After a record-breaking summer spanning 240 days, Guangzhou officially entered autumn on November 18, as confirmed by the Guangzhou Meteorological Bureau on November 24. This marks the longest summer in 30 years for the city.

According to meteorological definitions, autumn begins only when average daily temperatures fall below 22℃ for five consecutive days. By 8 pm on November 24, Guangzhou's data met this criterion, confirming that autumn officially began on November 18. This year's autumn arrived six days later than in 2023 (November 12) and nine days later than the historical average (November 9).
Similar announcements of autumn's arrival have been made in other cities across Guangdong, including Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Huizhou, Dongguan, and Zhanjiang, signaling a seasonal shift for the region.
Cold snap brings a chilly turn
With the cold wave approaching, Guangdong is bracing for a stretch of cloudy and cold weather. The Guangdong Meteorological Bureau forecasts a moderate to strong cold front arriving in northern Guangdong this evening, reaching Guangzhou by midnight and the southern coast by early morning on November 26.
The cold air is expected to lower temperatures by 4 to 7℃ across the province, accompanied by strong winds and light to moderate rain. The coldest temperatures will likely occur on the morning of November 29, with some northern regions dipping to as low as 5℃. From November 25 to 26, southeastern Guangdong will experience moderate to heavy rainfall, while central and northern parts of the province are likely to see light to moderate rain.
