Guangdong to deepen economic ties with African countries

Guangdong will deepen trade and investment cooperation with African nations during China's 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026–2030), building on a 10.7% year-on-year growth in import-export volume with Africa in 2025, said Sun Bin, Deputy Director-General of the Guangdong Department of Commerce, at an industry promotion event held in Foshan City on Feb.5.

The matchmaking event, highlighting Guangdong's hardware and kitchenware industry, featured introductions to export bases and leading enterprises from Guangdong's seven major manufacturing cities in the sector.

Over 40 buyer representatives from 10 African countries, including Angola, Senegal, Tanzania, and Mali, engaged in direct procurement talks with more than 20 leading enterprises from the Guangdong alliance, marking a fresh step forward in Guangdong's collaboration with Africa.

"Guangdong and Africa are highly complementary in their industries," noted Deputy Director-General Sun Bin.

"Products such as electrical equipment, home appliances, motorcycles, steel, and textiles from Guangdong enjoy strong demand in African markets, while African metals, gems, crude oil, and agricultural products have secured a solid foothold in Guangdong."

Sun added that the total import-export volume between Guangdong and Africa exceeded 300 billion yuan in 2025.

"We hope this event will help African partners better appreciate the strengths of Guangdong's hardware and kitchenware brands, so that more high-value, practical 'Guangdong goods' can enhance the lives of African consumers," Sun said, while also extending a warm welcome to more quality products from Africa into Guangdong.

Consul General Judite of the Consulate General of Angola in Guangzhou expressed support for stronger collaboration.

She noted that since the 2018 Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, passenger flights between China and Africa have increased by 23%, nearly a thousand Chinese medical personnel have been dispatched to Africa, and over 200 agricultural experts have begun work on the continent. Chinese companies have also undertaken numerous infrastructure projects across Africa.

"Africa is rich in mineral resources and has a youthful population. We are building an entrepreneurial ecosystem centered on developing people's skills," said Consul General Judite.

"We are confident that China-Africa friendship will continue to thrive based on our shared vision," she concluded.
