3,118 additional passenger train services scheduled for May Day holiday rush

The May Day holiday railway travel rush will span eight days, from April 29 to May 6. During this period, China Railway Guangzhou Group plans to operate an average of 3,593 trains daily, representing a year-on-year increase of 89 trains, or 5.2%. A total of 3,118 additional passenger train services are scheduled, including 2,637 EMU (Electric Multiple Unit) services. Among them, 1,597 will be overnight high-speed trains.

Guangzhou South Railway Station plans to add 1,119 high-speed train services, including 397 overnight trains operating between midnight and 6 a.m., mainly serving routes to Changsha, Wuhan, Chaoshan, Zhanjiang, and Nanchang.

China Railway Guangzhou Group expects to handle 22.77 million passenger trips during the holiday, with a daily average of 2.846 million—an increase of 1.185 million, or 5.5% year-on-year. The travel peak is expected to fall on May 1. Guangzhou South Railway Station is projected to handle 5.941 million passenger trips, averaging 743,000 arrivals and departures daily, a year-on-year increase of 11.63%.

Due to heavy passenger flows during this holiday, travelers are advised to allow ample time for station entry, security checks, and transfers to avoid delays. Traffic congestion is expected at the east and west departure platforms of Guangzhou South Railway Station; passengers are encouraged to use parking lots P1 through P8 before entering the station.

Passengers using overnight high-speed services should pay close attention to departure times, which follow a 24-hour format. For instance, a ticket for 00:30 on May 1 requires passengers to arrive at the station on the evening of April 30.
