The world's first documentary centered on the Chinese white dolphin, Chinese White Dolphin, will be released nationwide on December 12, 2025.

The Chinese white dolphin, a national first-class protected species, has an estimated global population of around 6,000, with more than 2,000 living in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Known for its remarkable speed and endurance, this species can exceed 12 knots per hour and perform complex movements, including leaps, rolls, and fin displays.

The dolphin also inspired the mascot of the 15th National Games, the 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities, and the 9th National Special Olympics Games, which were jointly hosted by Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao. In the documentary, mascot designer Liu Pingyun explains that the dolphin's social nature reflects the teamwork and courage demonstrated by athletes.

Athletes themselves share a special fondness for these "gymnasts." Li Jianming, gold medalist in the men's Nanquan-Nandao-Nangun of Wushu Taolu event at the 15th National Games, said he looks forward to watching the film. "I want to experience this powerful life force on the big screen. It will bring me motivation and inspiration."

According to Yan Dong, director of Chinese White Dolphin, the documentary aims to present more than just a rare species—it conveys unity, resilience, and the spirit of striving, mirroring the essence of sport.
