Seminar in Guangzhou focuses on global competence development for youth in GBA

Over 100 experts from government, academia, think tanks, and international organizations convened at South China Agricultural University in Guangzhou on June 11 to explore strategies for cultivating globally competent youth in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA).

An Yan, Deputy Secretary-General of the China Education Association for International Exchange, highlighted the region's openness, multinational presence, and innovation hubs as key advantages for developing international talent. She called for deeper collaborations with universities to provide students with more global academic and practical experiences.

An's call was echoed by education leaders from Guangdong. A spokesperson from Guangdong's Department of Education reaffirmed the province's commitment to internationalization, while Li Fengliang, Secretary of the Party Committee at South China Agricultural University, outlined the university's plans to involve students in global internships, entrepreneurship, and Belt and Road rural development projects.

Following the opening remarks, university representatives from Guangdong and Hong Kong, along with experts from international NGOs, shared case studies and insights on fostering global competence among youth.
