Multiple Guangdong enterprises make national cultural industry lists

The lists of the 2025 top 30 cultural enterprises and the top 30 emerging cultural enterprises in China were unveiled at the Forum for Building China's Cultural Strength 2025 on May 26 in Shenzhen, Guangdong. A total of four Guangdong-based companies appeared across both rankings.

Among them, three Guangdong enterprises—Tencent Technology (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd., Guangdong Radio and Television Network Co., Ltd., and Guangdong Publishing Group Co., Ltd.—were included in the list of the top 30 cultural enterprises.

China Unicom WoMusic Culture Co., Ltd. secured a spot in the category of the top 30 emerging cultural enterprises.

The top 30 cultural enterprises prioritized social benefits alongside economic returns, achieving a combined net asset value of RMB 695.2 billion and total operating revenue of RMB 639.8 billion in 2024, surpassing the RMB 600 billion threshold for the first time.

The top 30 emerging cultural enterprises demonstrated robust growth, with average year-on-year increases exceeding 15% in operating revenue, net assets, net profit, and R&D investment. Notably, R&D spending grew by over 40%, reflecting the dynamic expansion of new cultural formats and business models.

The selected Guangdong enterprises excel in fields such as digital creativity, animation and gaming, online media, cultural manufacturing, and industrial investment.

As China's largest cultural industry province, Guangdong has maintained its top position in cultural industry scale for 22 consecutive years. In 2024, Guangdong's cultural enterprises above designated size reported total operating revenue of RMB 2.5 trillion, accounting for approximately one-sixth of the national total. Revenue from new cultural formats reached RMB 915 billion, marking a 10.5% year-on-year growth.

On the opening day of this year's China (Shenzhen) International Cultural Industries Fair on May 22, Guangdong unveiled a policy package to drive the high-quality development of its cultural industries.

The package, which includes 87 targeted measures across six sectors (film and television, performing arts, animation and film, online gaming, esports, and online media), sends a strong signal to global cultural enterprises, inviting them to invest and collaborate in the province.
