From October 31 to November 1, the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University (FAH-SYSU) partnered with Mass General Brigham to co-host the 2025 International Conference on High-level Hospital Development (ICHD 2025).
The conference addressed a wide range of themes, including leadership in the era of artificial intelligence (AI), the application of AI in medical education, and interprofessional patient care in oncological surgery.
In his opening speech, Xiao Haipeng, the President of FAH-SYSU, emphasized that the conference, themed "leadership development, AI, and the application of various interprofessional fields in medicine," directly addressed the challenges and issues in emerging areas.

He expressed hope that this conference would serve as a bridge to promote deeper international dialogue and collaboration. By fostering excellent leadership, it would guide the direction of AI innovation in the medical field, providing patients with more comprehensive, safer, more efficient, and more humane care, and collectively building a global community of health for all.
Since 2021, FAH-SYSU and Mass General Brigham have developed a solid and results-oriented partnership. Initially, their collaboration encompassed a three-year project across eight clinical specialties.
In 2024, the two sides signed a new five-year agreement, officially establishing this long-term cooperation model. The agreement has deepened cooperation in several key areas, including leadership development, comprehensive medical simulation training, emergency medicine & urgent care service line implementation, and strategic support for the expansion of FAH-SYSU's surgical oncology center in Guangzhou.
Through these close collaborations, the research team at FAH-SYSU has published over 40 papers in top international journals such as Nature, Science, The BMJ, Cancer Cell, TheLancet Digital Health, Cell Metabolism, and Immunity in recent years.

Giles Boland, the Executive Vice President of Mass General Brigham, stated that in the current landscape marked by AI, the demand for cultivating exceptional medical leadership in hospitals worldwide is becoming increasingly urgent, and the exploration and application of multidisciplinary professional integration are also gaining greater significance.
He believes that this conference provided an important platform for in-depth international exchanges and cooperation. It would help promote a patient-centered service model that leverages AI to enhance medical quality, injecting new impetus into the construction of a high-quality modern medical landscape.

During the opening ceremony, it was also announced that FAH-SYSU, with strategic advisory support from Mass General Brigham, officially launched the United Center for High-quality Surgery (UNIQUE) project. Guided by the concept of promoting development through openness and improving quality through cooperation, the project will drive "platform-based" exchanges and collaborations in various aspects such as talent, technology, and management, contributing to the high-quality development of hospitals worldwide.
