Xpeng begins European production in Austria

Chinese electric vehicle maker Xpeng has started local production in Europe, with the first units of its G6 and G9 models rolling off the assembly line at Magna Steyr's factory in Graz, Austria, this quarter. The move signals a strategic shift from export-based sales to localized manufacturing for the Guangzhou-based company.

Magna Steyr, a subsidiary of Magna International, which is headquartered in Canada, ranks as the world's second-largest automotive parts supplier. Within the automotive industry, Magna Steyr is particularly recognized for its contract manufacturing of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class.

By leveraging the factory's existing mature production lines, Xpeng is vigorously advancing the localization process of its electric vehicles in Europe. The first batches of Xpeng G6 and G9 models have successfully rolled off the production line. In the future, the plant will also produce additional Xpeng models.

Xpeng entered Europe in 2021 through Norway and has since expanded to over 46 countries and regions globally. Between January and July 2025, the company reported overseas sales of 18,701 vehicles, a 217% year-on-year increase, highlighting the growing international demand for its electric models.
