Shenzhen's Nanshan District adds Peru's Cusco to global cooperation portfolio

Nanshan District of Shenzhen, China, and the City of Cusco, Peru, formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance exchanges and cooperation at Cusco City Hall on June 1, 2025. This marks the start of a new chapter in bilateral relations between the two urban districts, establishing a framework for future collaborative initiatives.

The two sides will strengthen exchanges and cooperation across economic, tourism, cultural, innovation-entrepreneurship, and other sectors based on principles of mutually beneficial reciprocity, pooling complementary strengths, long-term cooperation, and joint development to promote shared prosperity.

This agreement will further cooperation for both sides. Nanshan will leverage the pact to amplify its international connectivity and enterprise globalization initiatives. Meanwhile, Nanshan's technological expertise and innovative vision are expected to enhance Cusco's tourism resource development and agricultural modernization.

Currently, Nanshan District has established friendly exchange and cooperation partnerships with four cities: Nantes, France; Tampere, Finland; Cupertino, USA; and Marbella, Spain. Cusco will become Nanshan's fifth international friendly exchange partner.

On the day of the signing, the Nanshan delegation participated in a significant Peruvian cultural ceremony, gaining profound insights into the spiritual legacy of Inca civilization. This cultural immersion further strengthened bilateral cultural ties, complementing last year's collaborative exhibition "The Inca and Their Tawantinsuyu: The Land of Four Quarters," co-hosted by Nanshan Museum and Peru's Ministry of Culture in 2024. The engagement advances cooperation in cultural heritage conservation and exchange programs.

A parallel photo exhibition opened during the signing ceremony. Curated visuals contrasted Nanshan's modern skyline, tech innovations, and cultural venues with Cusco's archaeological wonders, living traditions, and Andean landscapes. This visual dialogue fostered cross-cultural understanding among attendees.
