Since early morning on March 15, moderate to heavy rain and short bursts of strong winds (7-8 level) have been reported in districts like Zengcheng and Huadu. From midday to evening of March 15, strong convective weather is expected in central and southern Guangzhou, bringing heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and hail.
Cold air has reached northern Guangzhou, with stable rain in these areas today. By night, rain will ease across the city. Temperatures are expected to drop by 7 to 9 °C from March 15 to 17, as the cold front moves in.
The Guangdong Meteorological Observatory predicts that areas such as the central and southern Pearl River Delta, Maoming, Yangjiang, and Shanwei will experience moderate to heavy rain on March 15, with localized heavy downpours and strong winds of 8 to 10 levels, along with possible hail. Temperatures will drop significantly, with clearer skies, larger diurnal temperature differences, and cooler mornings from March 16 to 18.
As Guangdong enters its peak season for severe convective weather, residents are urged to stay alert for lightning, gusts, and hail, as heavy rainfall may lead to flooding, as well as risks of landslides and mudslides.
