China Southern Airlines and the International Air Transport Association (IATA) have jointly hosted the first China Aviation Finance Payment Forum in Guangzhou, aiming to reshape payment systems in the air travel industry through innovation and digital transformation.
Held from June 10 to 11, the event brought together global aviation leaders to explore how smart, traveler-centric payment solutions can enhance operational efficiency and improve the customer experience.
According to the Chief Accountant of China Southern, Chen Dong, the airline has been actively integrating technologies such as big data and AI to drive progress in areas like dynamic pricing, personalized services, and electronic payments. It has also enhanced cross-border payment accessibility, supporting a wide range of international cards and digital wallets, with instant transaction processing in over 130 currencies.
The airline reported an 83% year-on-year increase in international card transactions in 2024, with a further 78% rise in Q1 2025.
