The Macao Institution of People's Alliance has opened its Guangdong office in the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, expanding community support services for Macao residents living and working across the border as Hengqin-Macao integration continues to deepen.
Inaugurated on July 6, the office will help Macao residents address issues related to housing, employment, business start-ups, and daily life, and will also provide community mediation services.
Since beginning operations in March, the office has handled more than 170 cross-border mediation cases through a hybrid online-and-offline service model—most cases involved labour disputes, neighbourhood conflicts, and property management issues.
Founded in 2008, the Macao Institution of People's Alliance is one of Macao's largest grassroots civic organisations, focusing on community services, mediation, and public policy engagement. In 2025, it served more than 1.5 million people and handled nearly 1,300 cases.
According to the organisation, the Guangdong office will primarily focus on assisting Macao residents in Hengqin before gradually expanding services to other cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
More than 30,000 residents from Macao now live permanently in Hengqin, while the island is also home to more than 8,000 Macao-funded businesses. With the establishment of the new office, Hengqin now hosts ten representative offices of major Macao community organisations, underscoring closer institutional cooperation between Macao and Hengqin.
