A joint media tour themed "Leveraging New Advantages to Align with the 15th Five-Year Plan," organized by the Hong Kong and Macao Work Office of the CPC Central Committee, visited Nansha in Guangzhou on August 25. Representatives from nearly 40 major media outlets conducted field visits across the district to learn about Nansha's new approaches, measures and progress in fostering cooperation between Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao. They also learned how Nansha continued to advance collaborative innovation and pursue high-quality development during the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-2030).
The media delegation first visited the Nansha Information Technology Park and toured an exhibition hall at the Guangzhou HKUST Fok Ying Tung Research Institute, which presented achievements in cooperation between Guangzhou and Hong Kong. The visit showcased Nansha's achievements in leveraging technology and innovation resources from Hong Kong and Macao, as well as deepening collaboration among industry, academia and research institutions.
Gao Min, dean of the Guangzhou HKUST Fok Ying Tung Research Institute, said the institute serves as a key mainland platform of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology for innovative technology research and development and the commercialization of research outcomes. Over the past five years, 16 companies incubated by the institute have secured investment, raising more than 400 million yuan in total and reaching a combined valuation of over 2 billion yuan.
A number of these incubated companies have since become key players in Nansha's technology innovation sector. Among them, APT Electronics Co., Ltd., which was incubated by HKUST and established in Nansha early on with support from the institute, has grown into a leading local high-tech enterprise, and was listed on the main board of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in 2024, serving as an example of Guangzhou-Hong Kong collaboration in technological innovation and business growth.
At the Nansha Innovation and Entrepreneurship Theme Exhibition Hall in Guangzhou, the media delegation held discussions with Xie Wei, Deputy Director of the Management Committee of the China (Guangdong) Pilot Free Trade Zone, Nansha Development Zone, to learn more about Nansha's strategic plans and development path as it aligns its development with China's 15th Five-Year Plan and supports the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
Xie Wei said that during the 15th Five-Year Plan period, Nansha will work toward its overall goal of becoming a model zone for Chinese modernization, targeting average annual GDP growth of around 6 percent and per capita GDP approaching the level of the world's leading developed economies.
Nansha will further implement the Master Plan of Guangzhou Nansha on Deepening Comprehensive Cooperation between Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao with Global Perspective (the Nansha Plan), and develop a major Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao cooperation platform with global reach. It will explore direct communication and coordination mechanisms with government departments in the Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions, deepen integration in areas including cross-boundary professional practice, the movement of people and information flows, and jointly advance market integration in the Greater Bay Area.
In alignment with Hong Kong's 2025 Policy Address, Nansha will strengthen Guangdong-Hong Kong cooperation in innovation and technology and deepen collaboration with Hong Kong in key areas such as healthcare. It will also align with Macao's Third Five-Year Plan, develop distinctive cooperation platforms with Macao, and explore the joint development of a Guangdong-Macao platform to support the overseas expansion of the automotive sector, further expanding the scope of economic cooperation.
To develop a special zone for international talent, Nansha will foster an environment aligned with international standards and work with Hong Kong and Macao to attract talent from around the world. Focusing on key industries, it will accelerate talent development and seek to attract leading industry professionals, outstanding engineers and highly skilled workers. It aims to bring in more than 100,000 university graduates over the next five years.
