The proportion of days with good air quality reached 95.4% in Guangdong in 2025, according to a press conference reviewing the province's ecological and environmental progress during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025).
In 2025, the average concentration of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) was 21 micrograms per cubic meter in Guangdong, lower than the Interim Target-2 standard of 25 micrograms per cubic meter set by the World Health Organization.

As part of efforts to promote the construction of a green and beautiful Guangdong during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, the scale of urban green spaces in the province has expanded. A total of 21,000 hectares of new urban green spaces were added, contributing to an urban green space ratio of 41.2% and a per capita park green space area of 17.9 square meters. Additionally, 2,123 pocket parks were newly constructed across the province.
The province has also focused on creating green and beautiful roads and waterfront ecological corridors. A total of 7,608 kilometers of greenways were completed. The forest coverage rate of Guangdong reached 53.39%. Moreover, Guangdong ranks first in the country in terms of both the total area and the increase in mangrove areas.
In the field of green and low-carbon development, the cumulative trading volume of carbon emission allowances reached 233 million tons, with a total transaction value exceeding 6.78 billion yuan. For ten consecutive years, Guangdong has ranked first among regional carbon markets in China.

In terms of environmental infrastructure, approximately 115,000 kilometers of urban domestic sewage pipelines have been built, representing a 69% increase compared to the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-2020). The total sewage treatment capacity reached 40.2 million tons per day, a 20% rise from the previous period, both ranking first in the country.
The total daily treatment capacity for domestic waste reached 169,000 tons. The approved capacity for hazardous waste utilization and disposal in the province reached 1.459 million tons per year, doubling that of the 13th Five-Year Plan period.
Regarding marine water quality, the proportion of excellent water quality areas in the coastal waters of Guangdong was 91.2% in 2025. The province has basically completed the investigation of sewage outlets into the sea along its 4,084 kilometers of mainland coastline and 1,536 kilometers of coastline on inhabited islands.
