A new habitat of Alsophila gigantea Wall. ex Hook., a second-class nationally protected wild plant species, has been discovered at Changkeng Forest Farm in Renhua County, Shaoguan, Guangdong Province.

Alsophila gigantea Wall. ex Hook. belongs to the Cyatheaceae family and is a relict tree fern species. It can grow 2 to 5 meters tall, with fronds extending over 3 meters. The newly discovered population was found in dense forest along a valley at an altitude of around 390 meters, reflecting the area's well-preserved ecological environment.


With a forest coverage rate of 95.69 percent, Changkeng Forest Farm serves as a natural sanctuary for a wide range of rare fauna and flora.
